President’s Message by Matt Petersen Last Updated: December, 2017
This time of year this word means so much too so many. The quality of being kind and generous around the holidays will make many people happy. All of our members are generous not only now, but year round in volunteering for ASHRAE at the local and national levels. We thank all these members for everything they do.
At the national level ASHRAE provides research dollars to many organizations, all stemming from the generosity of our members, both individual and corporate, by donating money to ASHRAE Research. The money collected goes toward research, endowment funds and scholarships. We are very lucky to have the companies and members that are very giving to assist Society each year. Our chapter has been recognized years over for most dollars collected per member. Way to go NEOK!
Our chapter is also very generous in activities around the local area. Our Sustainability team is working with Habitat for Humanity to see if one of their projects will fit into the ASHRAE mold. This will be our third year of providing assistance in the Tulsa metropolitan area. We look forward to helping and donating our time to the sustainability of our local area.
On a personal level, every year my family selects a few children from the Salvation Army Gift Tree to provide them with a Christmas morning they will never forget. We donate many items to the children each year. This year my daughter was more involved than she has been in the past, wanting to help out where she can. She even decided to be generous with her own money and bought presents for the gift tree as well as her family and friends. That goes to show even a 9 year old can be generous without even being asked.
Please notice that our next chapter meeting is on January 3rd, right after the New Year. Current plans are to have Mark Hamilton, Executive Account Manager with Accurex Kitchen Ventilation Systems present “Energy Consumption and Code Updates in the Kitchen Ventilation Market”. Please join us for this lunch meeting, and as always this is meeting is good for 1 CE hour.
Remember that the Winter Meeting is being held in Chicago, January 20-24, 2018. Get registered, reserve those hotel rooms and get ready for a great Expo. Hoping to see a few of our local members while walking the show floor.
Everyone have a happy and safe Christmas and New Year’s! Be as generous as you can!
