President’s Message by Matt Petersen Last Updated: January, 2018
It is time for a reboot where we all can start fresh with the first of the New Year. What better time than the first of January. The ASHRAE year is half over and the final push for our chapters begins now.
Rebooting means to start anew, to refresh by making a new start or creating a new version. I do not believe any of us needs to create a new version, but definitely a refresh is called for. I for one have many things to refresh in my life. I know I can refresh my activities as Chapter President and look forward to the final six months of my tenure. I am already considering volunteering for other responsibilities in the local chapter after my year is completed.
One reboot I did this year already is that I attended my first Tulsa Engineering Foundation meeting, which I found very professional and informative. I had no idea that there was such a group of people meeting to promote engineering in the Tulsa area. I plan on growing my involvement and also the involvement of the Northeastern Oklahoma ASHRAE chapter as well. Both societies are pushing engineering by many activities and events. With E-Week and Introducing a Girl to Engineering Day both fast approaching there are many things that need to be done to make these events successful.
If all of us could look over other societies and events and happenings around our local area I am sure there are plenty of activities to participate in and to get more involved in the local engineering world. Our local energy company is sponsoring an energy efficiency seminar on February 12th, with respected speakers in attendance it looks as to be a fantastic day of learning, networking and delivering the engineering ideals.
Personally, I will reboot many things at the work place. I will take notes of what I need to accomplish in 2018 and strive to meet those goals by overcoming the many challenges that I am sure will be present as I progress through the year.
Please take notice that our next chapter meeting is on February 1st, where we will be hosting our live auction to benefit ASHRAE research. This event is a dinner event starting at 5:30. We will return to our normal lunch meetings in March. Please come out and join us and bid on some great items, I hope to see everyone there.
Everyone please take time and do a reboot this month, and let’s recharge our activities, our actions, our decisions.
